Latest kitchen pictures

These would probably look better installed....maybe they will be in the next post.
My friend, Noel, thinks I should put in some glass cabinet doors above the cooktop.  I think it is a good idea.  I have a collection of Rudy's cups that I'd like to display.

Wood floor in the downstairs bedroom: done.

Day 6

Not much happened...Saturday.  To get a jumpstart on next week (countertop delivery, painting, and backsplash), the painters came to put up drywall where the old backsplash had been and to drywall around the sliding glass door.

Oven finally goes in

Now, not all of this is the fault of Lowes, but I don't think I will do any appliance shopping with them again.  I originally bought the oven telling them I want them to deliver it only.  I later changed my mind and purchased the install.

I had known that the new oven was not as tall as the old vintage 80's oven.  Since the cabinets were going to be painted, I didn't see this as an issue.  Just put in a trim piece and paint it.  Well, when the installers came (late), they said their boss would not allow them to put in a trim piece larger than 3".  This opening is about 7" or 8".

After going back and forth with the people at Lowes, they suggested that their cabinet guy could do the build out and install the oven.  (Note: I am skipping the several steps it took to get to that point and just giving the outcome of that entire process).  The cabinet guy comes out and says that he needs to put a 1/2" piece on the side (fine, I agree) and the top trim piece.  He also wants to move the electrical outlet to be at the top of the cabinet implying that it is "code" (This sounds expensive).  He leaves.

The quote comes in the next day. $592!!!  I decided not to go with Lowes.

My contractor's electrician was able to install the oven, he built in a shelf (soon to be a folding down cabinet door), he trimmed everything else out, an he didn't need to move the outlet to the top of the cabinet because the shelf is now effectively the top of the cabinet.

All this for less than half of what Lowes wanted.

New sliding glass door

This door differs from the last one in a few ways: it opens smoothly, it opens more than 8" without getting stuck, no moisture in between the double pane glass, it is level, it seals, and you can't see daylight at every corner.

New Tile!

Fireplace tile is in place
Kitchen tile is in!
Cabinets have been reinstalled.  Next step for them: prep/prime/paint.

Leveling the kitchen floor

The backsplash tile was really on there.  The drywall will need to be replaced.
Floor leveling.  That's about 2" of difference between the back of the kitchen and the front.

Day 2 of demo

Kitchen tile coming out

This can't be good.....
Actually, it was because the hot water line was not connected properly when the new washer was installed.

Day 1 of demo

Goodbye ugly backsplash tile....
Goodbye trash compactor...
Goodbye ugly countertop...

The day before the start of the remodel

Unfortunately, no pictures of the living room before I ripped out the carpet and no pictures of the kitchen with all the vintage, early 80's appliances, but here is what my condo looked like before the remodeling started.
